Continente Online

In 2004, given the global scenario, Continente (hypermarkets belonging to the retail arm of Sonae) felt the need to update its e-commerce platform to be prepared to offer additional and better services to its customers.

The Challenge

For Tlantic, the challenge was to update the software platform to Microsoft Commerce Server while keeping all the current capabilities and implementing new requirements without impacting to the business, which was already in full swing.

The volume of purchases and number of hits also became a major technological challenge for the project. The solution, apart from the usual load tests, was to simulate live and unpredictable operations. A Call Center team was hired to place orders on the site and push it to its limit.

The Solution

The entry strategy of the production site was based on release cycles to selected groups of users that helped to test the entire system prior to the general public release.
The site, which went live in 2005, received award for "Best National OnLine Store" in Portugal, according to the magazine PCGUIA in the years 2006 and 2007.
